The metabolism of D- and L- glutamic acid in the rat.

چکیده
When DL-<MniC acid-2-V was administered to rats by intraperitoneal injection (l), conversion to succinate via a-ketoglutarate was the primary route of catabolism. However, when glutamate was injected into the cecum of rats, carbon 2 was converted to the methyl carbon of acetate (I). Glutamic acid administered by stomach tube was metabolized by both of the above mentioned pathways (1). The present report deals with the results of similar studies with Dand L-glutamic acid-2-V and DLand n-glutamic acid5-C4. The data suggest that (a) after intraperitoneal injection, L-glutamate is catabolized via a-ketoglutarate, whereas Dglutamate is converted to n-pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (2) ; (b) carbon 2 of both Dand L-glutamate is converted in the cecum to the methyl carbon of acetate, probably by the route described by Barker et al. (3-5) rather than via the Stickland reaction (6); and (c) both rat liver and kidney catalyze the conversion of n-glutamic acid to n-pyrrolidone carboxylic acid.

Comparison Studies on Complexation of Molybdenum(VI) with Aspartic Acid And Glutamic Acid in Different Dielectric Constants1
Equilibria of the reaction of molybdenum(VI) with L-aspartic acid (Asp) and L- Glutamic acid(Glu) have been studied by spectrophotometric measurements in mixed solvent systems at an ionicstrength of 0.2 mol/dm3 sodium perchlorate, employed (15, 20, 25, 30± 0.1°C) at pH ranges of 3.2to 5.5 with a high ratio of ligand to metal. The stability constants of the complexes and theresulting free energy...
متن کاملSignificant Changes in the Activity of L-Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase of Mouse Hypothalamus After Peripheral Injection of Cholecystokinin-8 and Caerulein
The activity of one of the metabolizing enzymes of - aminobutyric acid, (GABA), was determined in mouse hypothalamus after peripheral injections of cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8) and caerulein (CLN). The activity of this rate-limiting enzyme, L-glutamic acid decarboxylase, (GAD), did not change thirty minutes after peripheral injections of either CCK-8 or CLN in doses of 50g/kg body weight. Howeve...
متن کاملINVESTIGATION ON ANTI-GLUTAMIC ACID DECARBOXYLASE ANTIBODIES IN TYPE I DIABE TES MELLITUS
Antibodies directed against the enzyme glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) are believed to be the main cause of destruction of pancreatic islet cells in type I (insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus. The enzyme was found both in the brain and pancreatic beta cells. Although similarities in identity of GAD in human and rat brain have been demonstrated, little is known about the interaction betw...
متن کاملEffect of D-glucose injection into ventromedial and lateral nuclei of hypothalamus on pentagastrin-induced gastric secretion in rat
It has been shown that those factors which affect gastric acid secretion through the ventromedial and lateral nuclei of hypothalamus, can significantly alter centrally-mediated secretion. There is much evidence that glucose is among these factors that through a central mechanism can decrease induced acid secretion. It appears that this effect is mediated through glucose-sensitive neurons within...
